Jamaica Plain real estate
Originally part of Roxbury, Jamaica Plain today is a 4.4 square mile neighborhood of Boston that is home to a significant part of the Emerald Necklace parks. Perhaps one of the most sought after parks is the Arnold Arboretum, a great place to take a stroll on a weekend or enjoy a picnic.
Once officially part of Boston in late 1800’s growth began to happen in JP. With that growth was the introduction of the popular triple decker homes that began to line the streets. The Stony Brook valley was once the epicenter of much industry. In fact, breweries took advantage of the Stony Brook aquifer and a once large German population in the area. Today much of the value of the brook is a distant memory and we are reminded of it by the naming of a T stop - Stony Brook Station. The new major artery in “JP” is Center Street. This main road that runs through the diverse neighborhood offers numerous family owned businesses from shops to restaurants and bars.
